[Dan Bassill led a volunteer-based tutor/mentor program in Chicago for nearly 40 years. In 1992 he created Tutor/Mentor Connection to share what he had learned, and what others were learning, with a goal of helping mentor-rich, long-term programs, reach more youth living in high poverty areas. Dan began putting this information on the Internet in 1998 and now the information represents one of the most in-depth collections of information that resource providers, program leaders, and policy makers can use to support their own efforts to make well-operated programs available to youth. Visit http://www.tutormentorexchange.net and follow the links to a constantly expanding web of resources. Pay special attention to section at http://www.tutormentorexchange.net/defining-a-terms/215-interns-at-tmc showing how youth are communicating ideas from Dan’s web site. Others could duplicate this work in their own programs and communities.]
